Below, Factory Oficina offers a series of tips to help you choose the right office chair, ensuring it continues to play a leading role within your office furniture scheme.
1. Protect your lower back
Every good ergonomic chair should have lumbar support, which should never be confused with eye-catching padding. This support must maintain the natural curvature of the back.
2. The seat
This part of the chair supports much of our body weight and must therefore meet certain requirements. As a general rule, the edge should be rounded and slope slightly downwards to reduce pressure on the thighs, thereby promoting blood circulation.
Avoid excessive padding, as it moulds to poor posture, making it difficult to correct later. In this case, the maxim ‘less is more’ certainly applies.
Another important consideration is the depth of this component. When seated correctly, there should be a gap of approximately one clenched fist between the edge of the seat and the back of the knee.
3. Mobility
If sedentary behaviour is the problem, the chair must not restrict the movement of the person using it. Together with another key item of office furniture—the desk—it should allow complete freedom of movement without effort or obstruction.
4. Feet and arms
If the chair is too high, the legs should not be left dangling. In these cases, footrests are essential and should not be overlooked.
As for the arms, let the chair support their weight with its armrests.
5. Height
Pay close attention to the chair height: it should be neither too high nor too low. The legs should form a 90º angle, with the feet properly supported.
As you can see, ergonomic chairs are a key category within the wide range of office seating available, helping to safeguard users’ health. An employee who feels comfortable and supported at their workstation is more likely to perform well and remain productive.
