Things to Consider When Choosing Furniture for Your Boardroom

The first thing to consider is how we intend to use our meeting room and where it will be located. This will help us choose the right type of office furniture to suit our needs. Once we have considered these points, we should ask ourselves the following questions:

- Do we need a large boardroom for external clients or modular tables for internal meetings?

- Do we need one large meeting table, or several modular tables that can be moved or reconfigured to suit our needs?

- How many people will typically use the meeting room?

- Will we need storage in the room?

Last but not least, we need to consider the style of furniture we want: modern, rustic, contemporary…

Once we have a reasonably clear idea of all these requirements, we can begin choosing the elements we need for our meeting room.

Meeting tables:

As mentioned earlier in this blog post, there are several options available, depending on whether we want a table with a single top or several table sections that can be configured as required. We can also choose from traditional wooden tables, combinations of glass and wood for a modern yet classic look, all-glass tables, and more.

It is also important to decide whether we need a table with integrated power modules for plug sockets and other connections.

Chairs:

These can be divided into three main categories:

1. Stackable chairs.

2. Static chairs.

3. Swivel chairs with castors.

Stackable chairs are particularly useful in a multipurpose room that needs to be cleared after meetings so the space can be used for other purposes. As the chairs can be stacked, they take up very little space when stored.

Static chairs are suitable for face-to-face meetings where no screens or other equipment require users to turn or move around to see them.

Swivel chairs with castors are ideal for more dynamic meetings involving screens or where employees need to move around frequently. The seating should support and facilitate both movement and the dynamic nature of the meeting.

Storage and accessories:

Do we need cupboards for storing documents or stationery?

Do we need whiteboards or audiovisual displays?

Lighting:

Good lighting is essential to ensure that every person seated at the table has sufficient light. If the room has many windows, we should also consider whether blinds are needed to soften the natural light.

Another important consideration when creating an effective boardroom is soundproofing. These meetings often involve highly important matters, so the room should not be so noisy that people seated around the table struggle to follow the discussion. It is equally important to prevent confidential conversations held behind closed doors from being heard outside the room. A wide range of acoustic panels and accessories is available in different designs, shapes and styles to suit any boardroom.

The colour chosen for the walls can make the difference between an attractive boardroom and one that misses the mark. Neutral wall colours are a reliable choice for creating an elegant, formal space. Colour can then be introduced through chair upholstery or artwork.
