How to adjust my office chair.

How to adjust my office chair for good ergonomics

As we have mentioned on several occasions, good workplace ergonomics can help prevent injuries, illness, fatigue and discomfort. To avoid these issues, it is important to adjust your office chair correctly.

The adjustments can be divided into three groups: those relating to your body, the armrests and your posture.

Body-related adjustments:

These adjustments allow you to configure the chair to suit your body proportions.

seat height: this setting depends on the length of your lower leg.

seat depth: this moves the chair's seat to suit the length of your upper leg.

backrest height: this moves the backrest up and down to fit your back.

Armrest adjustments:

Armrest adjustments allow you to position your arms for maximum comfort.

Armrest height: adjusts the height of the armrest. Armrest width: adjusts the width of the armrest.

Armrest depth: adjusts the depth of the armrest. Armrest pivot: adjusts the angle of the armrest.

Posture adjustments:

These settings allow you to tilt and angle the seat and backrest for optimum comfort.

Tilt: this adjusts the angle of the entire seat unit, including both the seat base and the backrest, so they move together as a single unit.

Angle: this allows you to adjust the angle of the backrest and the seat independently.

What height should my office chair seat be?

The correct seat height should allow you to place your feet flat on the floor, with your knees at an angle of between 90 and 110 degrees. To achieve this, raise your chair to its highest setting. Then sit fully back on the seat while slowly lowering the chair until your legs are in the correct position.

What height should my office chair back be?

You should adjust the height of your chair's backrest so that it supports your lower back. To do this, slide it up and down until it fits comfortably into the curve of your spine.

How far back should I sit in my chair?

You should sit with your back resting comfortably against the backrest cushion. There should be a gap of around 5 cm between the edge of the seat and your calves. If this gap is too large or too small, adjust the seat depth or seat slide to position yourself correctly in the chair.

What height should my office chair armrest be?

The armrests should be positioned so that they just touch your elbows when your upper arms hang by your sides and your elbows are bent at a 90-degree angle. To set them correctly, lower the armrests to their lowest position. Sit with your arms relaxed by your sides, then bend your elbows to a 90-degree angle. Raise the chair's armrests until they make contact with your elbows.

How should I configure the posture settings on my office chair?

Posture settings generally vary according to the task being performed in the chair. As a rule, they should be configured to provide maximum comfort during everyday tasks while ensuring that the adjustments made to suit your body proportions remain effective.
